Melissa Kappes is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor (LPCC-S), who has over 20 years of experience in working with adolescents, adults and families. She has worked in a variety of settings, including a locked facility for juveniles, a hospital, a community mental health facility, an adoption agency and a school. Melissa began her career by working with adult men and women involved in the court system. Her skills then expanded to include experience with helping adolescents and their families deal with disruptive behaviors including sexually inappropriate behaviors. She also focuses on assisting adolescents and adults on how to recognize their unhealthy thinking patterns and work to change those thoughts and behaviors to more rational and ultimately productive outcomes. She also has significant experience in dealing with individuals struggling with weight loss issues. She takes a solution focused and cognitive behavioral approach when dealing with her clients.
Areas of Focus: Adolescents, adults, families, and psycho educational groups. Family relationships, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, grief, loss, traumatic experiences, adoption issues, adjustment disorders, disruptive behaviors, ADD/ADHD treatment, developmental disorders, and anger management.
