Mary Murphy is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) who graduated with her Master’s degree from The Ohio State University. Mary began her career as a LSW after working in the school system for seventeen years. She worked with children and adolescents in various roles from elementary to high school which included substitute teaching, secretarial, and in school suspension.
While completing her Masters degree in Social Work, Mary completed her field placement working with incarcerated adults in the county jail. During her field placement, she developed her skills in assessing individuals on suicide watch, performing intake assessments which included the clients’ bio, psycho, social history and mental health needs. Mary completed her field placement outcome evaluation on anger management by working with individuals identified with anger management concerns. She worked with these individuals utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and was able to evaluate the efficacy of CBT in reducing anger. Mary also led Life Skills classes during her field placement which focused on recognizing stressors and triggers and learning positive skills and techniques to handle stressful events. She has been employed at the jail since she graduated and has continued to develop her skills utilizing de escalation techniques, empathetic listening, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and motivational interviewing.
Areas of Focus: Children, adolescents, adults, families, and psychoeducational groups. ADD/ADHD, anger management, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and OCD.
